Denim is recognized as one of the most versatile kind of garment one can wear. What makes it so is that it can easily be made into varying types of clothing such as jeans, jackets, and many others. What’s more, it’s really comfortable and looks great worn-in which means that your denim clothing item can only ever get better over time. Denim jackets are the perfect cover-up during the spring and summer months, keeping off the chill first thing in the morning and last thing at night. The great thing about a denim jacket is that it suits with practically anything in your wardrobe, so you’ll get plenty of use out of yours. Here are five ways to style a denim jacket.
For work
Many workplaces nowadays have introduced a smart casual dress code. Whilst this may not enable you to wear your denim jacket during the working day, there is certainly no harm in using it as a cover up to wear to and from work. The best way to pull off this look is to invest in a darker wash denim jacket. Ensure you are wearing smart casual clothing underneath as it won’t work with a smart suit. Roll back the sleeves of your jacket and tie a bright scarf around your neck to complete the look.
On the beach
As mentioned above, denim jackets provide great cover ups, even more so on a blustery day at the beach. You can also use your denim jacket to cover up sensitive areas of your skin such as your shoulders if you feel like they have had too much sun exposure. So slip your denim jacket on over your bikini top and cotton shorts, roll back the sleeves and slip your feet into a pair of flip flops to finish the look. Now all that’s left to do is pop on a pair of oversize sunnies and you’ll be ready to hit the beach in style.
Rock the double denim trend
Double denim is everywhere right now, so why not use your denim jacket to pull off two trends at once. Choose a darker pair of denim shorts and team with a white camisole vest top. Layer over your denim jacket but choose one in light wash denim to ensure contrast between your jacket and your shorts. You could also add a chunky brown leather belt to help separate the two colours. Finally, add a pair of casual pumps on your feet and pull hair back into a high ponytail. Accessorise your wrists with chunky bangles and woven bracelets.
For a shopping trip
When you’re indulging in some retail therapy, it is only natural that you want to look and feel great too. If you’re likely to be trying on a lot of clothes, you’ll need to choose an outfit that is easy to remove or choose items that match with what you’ll be trying on. Take a pair of comfy leggings and team with an oversize long t-shirt. Then layer over a cropped denim jacket in a light wash and push back the sleeves. If it’s a bit chilly outside, tie a bright patterned scarf around your neck. For your feet, slip on a pair of comfortable ballet flats. The great thing about this outfit is that you can keep your leggings on when trying on dresses, skirts and shorts. Your ballet flats are easy to slip on and off, and you can use your denim jacket to see if it matches the items you’re trying on.
For a walk in the park
It may be sunny outside but there’s no excuse to not take a cover up. Unless of course it really is scorching but it is unlikely in the UK. Team your denim jacket with a pair of dark skinny jeans and a chic printed blouse. If the blouse is sheer, layer over a camisole vest top. Add a pair of casual pumps to your feet and a statement necklace to finish off your look perfectly.
